How long would a nuclear winter last?
Assuming that 36,000 megatons of bombs [about 79,000 bombs] went off [just over the world peak megatonnage [in 1974]], they were all in urban "high fire risk" areas, with a great deal of flammable material [wood etc.], as well as all of the world's oil wells being burned [adding more crap into the atmosphere], and that some of the bombs went off over national parks [assume that ALL of the WORLD'S forests are COMPLETELY on fire and will COMPLETELY burn down, thus adding even more soot into the atmosphere], and all of the dust and soot stayed in the atmosphere, how long would it take before most areas of the U.S could be farmed normally [i.e- it was warm and sunny enough for non-greenhouse farming in the U.S breadbasket [midwest], and fruitbasket [san juaquin valley]? How long would the soot and dust stay in the atmosphere? Also, during the time of peak nuclear winter in this scenario, how cold would it be at night, and what percent of sunlight WOULD get through? Also, assume that the attack occurred in the spring, and that there was no one putting out the fires, so the fires burned uncontrollably [assume that EVERY city, town, and outpost in the world COMPLETELY burned down, and EVERY forest in the world COMPLETELY burned down [and that almost all of the nuclear blasts were ground bursts]. Sorry, instead of spring, assume the attack occurred in the Summer, when it is hot and dry, and flammable objects would burn easier [and assume that the cities are FILLED with a plethora of flammable materials]. Finally, assume that the dust stayed in the stratosphere and upper atmosphere [in the jetstream], and as such would take an extremely long time to fall out of the sky]. Okay, final edit. Assume that the summer attack was in July [a July smoke injection], and that, because of climate problems due to the nuclear winter, there was LITERALLY NO RAIN WHATSOEVER TO WASH OUT THE SOOT FROM THE ATMOSPHERE, thus prolonging the winter. Truly final edit: assume that, not only did the forests burn down, but assume that EVERY patch of shrubland/grassland and EVERY patch of farmland burned [so, basically, assume that pretty much EVERY PLACE ON EARTH COMPLETELY BURNED DOWN.

why did the palestinians ( who are supposedly starving)?
destroy all the greenhouses, farms and housing left by the israelis when they left gaza. these greenhouses and farms were enough for the israelis to export billions of dollars worth of produce to europe each year... if the palestinians just used them for themselves they would have had plenty to feed themselves. i dont get it, in addition they would have had thousands of new homes. @YO.... ha ha ha...israel drops off tonnes and tonnes of food at the border every single day which the palestinians take, so that reasoning isnt correct. i am serious i really do want to know why. ok, so lets assume for a moment that they didnt destroy them. why havent they used some of the 18 billion in aid to build their own? they dont need israels water to do this, there is enough underground water in gaza, why cant they feed themselves? tarik, i do read about it. i also watch a tv station in australia called sbs which has many arab news programmes and is pro palestinian. this week there was a documentary produced by french muslims that went into gaza and showed how each and every single day israel delivers tonnes of food to the border, where hundreds of palestinians in brand new shiny volvo trucks ( each worth between $200,00 to $400,00)go to collect the food. the journalist was decidedly pro palestinian his words exactly were "nothing grows in this arid wasteland!" thats why the palestinians need food from other sources... obviously that isnt true... or are israelis magicians that they could? i know first hand, i dont need to read about that. i was one of the people who worked in the area near khan yunis, planting vegetables and setting up one of the farms some 35 years ago. we didnt use water from israel, it was all bore water. there is enough underground water to make the whole of gaza flourish.
